Right. So here goes. I just received my iPad a few days ago, and after customizing it, plugging it into my iTunes and syncing all my stuff over, I sent my MacBook pro to apple yesterday for some much needed servicing. So now I’m computer-less.
First off: what I’m using. I picked up the Switcheasy NUDE iPad case for my iPad today and found that applying the screen protector was more easy than applying a screen protector on the iPhone. My iPad is the 64GB iPad WiFi + 3G model that I picked up from the US. It’s running on the SingTel 3G network with a 50GB data cap
I’m going to be posting my thoughts on using my iPad as a replacement for my computer over the next few days. I want to point out the flaws and the effort that Apple has put into this device and find if, as Apple has positioned it: ‘a net book replacement’.
I’ve typed the few paragraphs on my iPad in landscape mode in the same amount of time that I would have on my laptop. Using 2 hands, the landscape keyboard is spacious and the autocorrect/predict that Apple has built into the iOS software just works. However, when I turn the iPad to portrait mode, typing becomes slightly slower and I have to use my 2 index fingers and the occasional other finder to help me type. But I think this discomfort will soon wear off, as I start using the keyboard more and more and get use to it. But for now, it’s back to landscape mode for me.
One problem that I have with typing with 2 hands is that it is impossible to be holding your iPad and typing easily at the same time. Hence the need to be seated and in this case, as I’m sure with many other iPad users, to be propping up the iPad on your legs.
So that’s it for now, I blog more about the wireless speed and apps when I start using them in the next few days.
Cheers! l288
